Privacy Policy

FAX (ScanBetter AI) sends and receives faxes from your iPhone and has AI tools for your documents. To deliver a fax, your document passes through our server and our fax carrier. To run an AI tool, the text you pick passes through our server to OpenAI. This page says what goes where, and for how long.

What is collected

Camera

Used only to scan pages you choose to fax. Nothing is recorded or sent until you tap Send.

Faxes you send

Your document and the recipient's number go to our server, which passes them to SignalWire, the carrier that dials the fax machine. Our server holds the document for up to two hours so the carrier can fetch it, then it is deleted. It keeps the fax id, recipient number, page count and status for up to 120 days, so the app can show delivery.

Faxes you receive

Faxes sent to your FAX number are stored by SignalWire. Our server records the sender's number, page count and which user they belong to. Only your app can list or open them.

Text you run through the AI tools

On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence, the AI tools run with Apple's models: on the device, where the text never leaves your phone, or, for long documents on iOS 27, in Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which uses the text only for your request and does not keep it. Apple counts these requests against a daily limit on your Apple Account. On other iPhones, or when Apple's model can't take the request, the text of the document you pick (read on your iPhone) and your question go through our server to OpenAI, which writes the answer. The app asks your permission before the first time text would go to OpenAI, and you can turn it off in Settings. OpenAI does not use this data to train its models and keeps it for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then deletes it. Our server does not store the text. It counts how many AI runs you used today, which engine ran each one (your iPhone, Apple's cloud or OpenAI) and whether your iPhone supports Apple's models, with your anonymous ID, to keep the daily limits and see how the tools are used.

Identifiers

A random anonymous ID from RevenueCat, and a random device ID kept on your iPhone. They limit the free fax to one per device and connect you to your faxes. Neither contains your name or contact details.

Contacts

If you pick a recipient, iOS gives the app only that number. Your address book is never read or uploaded.

Onboarding progress

Which setup screen you reached is saved with your anonymous ID at RevenueCat, so we can see where people stop. No third-party analytics tool is used.

Purchases

Processed by Apple. RevenueCat tells the app and our server whether Pro is active.

What is not collected

• No account and no login.
• We never read your faxes or your AI requests.
• No advertising and no ad identifiers.
• We do not sell personal data.

Where your data lives

Your sent history and documents stay on your iPhone. Documents you send are deleted from our server within two hours. Received faxes are kept by our carrier while your account is active. If Pro ends, your fax number is released after 7 days and cannot be recovered.

Children

FAX is a business tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Your rights

You can ask us to delete the records our server keeps about you. Email us with the fax number or the date of the fax, and we will delete them within 30 days.

Fax travels over the phone network and is not end-to-end encrypted. FAX is not a HIPAA-covered service.

Third parties

Apple processes every purchase and is the merchant of record. Apple's handling of your payment information is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.

RevenueCat tells the app whether a purchase is currently active. It receives a randomly generated identifier and Apple's purchase receipt. It receives nothing you fax and nothing that identifies you personally.

SignalWire is the telecom carrier that delivers and receives faxes. It processes your documents and fax numbers only to deliver them.

Apple runs the AI tools on your iPhone and, for long documents, in Private Cloud Compute. OpenAI runs them when Apple's models cannot. It receives only the text you choose to process and your question, uses it only to write the answer, does not train on it, and deletes it within 30 days.

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it, and the updated version is published here.
